Hi this is just a note to introduce myself! My name is Miss Folta (parents may call me Candi, Candice, or Miss Folta).

I will be your child's K-4 teacher and I am looking forward to meeting you and your child and having a great year with them, learning and growing in the knowledge of academic things as well as in the Lord. I wanted to let you know that I will be sending out weekly newsletters via EMAIL.

You can access the blog from the teacher page on our school's website: www.ccstricities.com. It will be VERY important to check the blog weekly. I may be adjusting the supply list in the next couple of days, due to not having very many last names in the beginning of the alphabet in our class. :)

You may also get updates during the week via email, so be sure to look those over.

I want you all to know that you can feel free to bring up any questions/ concerns to me about your student and the class and I will do my best to assist you with them. I want your child to have the best ever learning experience this year.

I am excited to start the year and see how your kiddos learn and grow in the months to come!

Hi friends and family!

Many of you know that I will be attending Child Evangelism Fellowship's training camp, Christian Youth in Action starting Friday, June 18 - Saturday June 26. I wanted to ask you to pray for me, my team of teen trainees, and the camp itself. God will use your prayers to accomplish the mighty work He wants to do in and through us not only at camp but this summer in the local outreach to children through 5-Day Club and fair ministries.

Your prayer is very much needed and appreciated during CYIA training camp! Thank you for helping me to equip teens to reach children during this week and prayerfully throughout their life.

Please be praying for us all to have soft, teachable hearts/ attitudes, for us to love and encourage one another in the Lord, be respectful and submissive to authority and that we would keep focused on the Lord and reaching the children living near the 5-Day Club locations during camp (and our home areas after camp). Pray for the protection of our families back home.

Pray for both adults and teens to keep strong spiritually, physically, and emotionally, as we minister to each other and the children attending clubs and their communities this week. Pray that God will help each of us to keep ourselves under the Holy Spirit's control and filled with His power.

Friday June 18:
*Pray for safety in travel to camp
*Pray that I can develop good relationships with the adults and teens at camp

*Pray that the trainees will not be too nervous today as club begins
*Pray that the trainees and I will listen as God is speaking to us
*Pray that the trainees will learn to put God first in every area of their lives (me too!)

*Pray for the trainees as the Junior High trainees join 5-Day Club teaching teams today

Last day of School! Report cards and curriculum

Hi Parents,

It was a great year and report cards are done!

If you didn't receive your K-4's report card and have a zero balance, it is in the office, along with any left over curriculum. Come on down and pick it up at your convenience.

If you still have a balance and/or your student has an overdue library book, you can pick up the report card/ curriculum in the office when everything is dealt with! You won't owe for the book if it is returned!

I will miss all of your children! This class was very special to me! Thank you for having your children be part of my class!

I would love to see your kiddo next year! If your K-4 will be coming to K-5 here next year, be sure to come say hi! I may be their Library teacher if I don't have 2 K-4 classes. (Please pray for me to be full-time status next year either way!)

If your kiddo will be attending a different school, I would still love to see them! Bring them by sometime, or please invite me to their birthday party!

Art Day/ Field Day/ Movie Day & Supplies List

Hi Parents!

It was such fun seeing the kiddos at the field trip! Many many thanks to our parent helpers!

I wanted to get a note out to you about our last days of school.

Firstly, Monday, if we can get 1 or 2 parent helpers to help with some art projects we will be doing, it would be great.

Tuesday June 8 will be our K-4 Field Day--the Kids will need to wear something to get wet in (one piece suits for girls--no bikinis) (see below)

Wednesday June 9 will be our Drive-In movie Day and last day of K-4. (see below)

We will need to get some supplies for these events!

Please bring items as soon as possible and No Later than Monday!

Puddle Ducks in the morning

Just a reminder for the field trip! We will be meeting in our K-4 room at 8:30am, divide the kids up into cars, distribute directions, and head out!

Changes to Field Trip Day!

Hi Parents,

The Puddle Ducks manager who would be presenting for us is not able to do it tomorrow! She is ill!

We are rescheduling for Tuesday, same schedule and same plan!

I hope we can still have our drivers, or if you can drive that day, it would be awesome! Sorry for the change in plan, but maybe it would have rained and cancelled on us anyway!

Puddle Ducks Herb Farm Field Trip THIS THURSDAY!!!!!!

Hi Parents,

Just a reminder, we will be going to Puddle Ducks Herb Farm on Thursday. Please send $4.00 in an envelope Wednesday.

Thursday, we will meet at the classroom, if you will not be driving, please bring your child's car seat/booster with them (and the 4 dollars if it hasn't been turned in yet ) when they come to class.

We will be leaving from CCS by 8:40am to get to Pasco Rd 76. We will be at the farm from 9:00-10:45 and then drive back to the school. We will be learning about plants, insects, and birds. It will be a lot of fun!

Parents, please bring cameras! I don't have one and I would love for us to have rememberances of the field trip!

I have the following parents signed up to drive, but any of you who want to come are welcome. They are only expecting the 12 kids from our class and their accompanying adults.

Field Trip Next Week

Hi parents,

We have exciting news! We have (tentatively) scheduled a field trip to Puddle Ducks Herb Farm in Pasco for Thursday morning. The coordinator was out of town when I contacted her, so she couldn't say for sure on the day, but I will know for sure Monday. I wanted to give a head's up that it was coming in case anyone needed to ask for time off at work to take the kids.

I will need parent drivers and "chaperones" to come with us and the more the merrier, as Mrs. Ricard will be out of town that day and I could use the parental "back-up." It will cost about $4.00.

The children will be learning about plants, bugs, et cetera. It's going to be a load of fun!

K4 News for May 10-14, 2010

Show & Tell

Our K-4's did great with long "Ē ē" as in eagle last week. This week's show & tell theme will be long Āā as in acorn. Examples of show & tell items: acorn, grapes, ape, baby doll, etc. Please help them to select items that are spelled with an Āā; some words have the Āā sound but are not spelled with an "a" in them (i.e. eight, great, etc.).

the wind that blows...

Hi Parents,

I think the best scenario for student pick up when the wind & weather is as bad as today, is to go to the school's drop off doors (i.e. the office doors). When weather causes us to go to this plan B, I will still look for you to come and pick them up and release them!

Just an FYI: The cones are normally up to prevent cars from coming too close to the doors to protect all the kiddos. The wind has been carrying them away of course, but we still need to park outside of them. Today was kind of crazy because of the wind, but things should hopefully be back to normal tomorrow .

Please make sure you let babysitters/ designated picker-uppers know about our plan B for pick up as well, so everybody knows where to go if the weather is weird!

Hi Parents,

Our students did such a great job with the "Xx" sound. We will be learning about the long vowel sounds in the next several weeks before school gets out. We will begin with the letter "Īī" as in ice cream this week. We will share objects with the long "Īī" sound this week in Show & Tell. Examples of objects with the long "Īī" sound and spelled with an "i" (not a y): rhinoceros / rhino, dinosaur, ice cream, tiger, lion, et cetera.

I will update the Memory Verse tomorrow and will send the Verse Card home with your child for practicing. J

Wednesday's Classroom Store

KRTs

Our K-4s did very well on their KRTs and you will be hearing soon of the results. J

Show & Tell
The children did very well in their "Qq" Show & Tells this week! Thanks for your help, parents! This week, we will be learning the "Xx" sound as in fox, box, and ax. Please help your child pick an item for show and tell that has the "Xx" sound, the "ks" sound of "Xx" is rare at the beginning of a word, so look for things they can share that end in "Xx" or have it somewhere in the middle. Examples of the "Xx" sound are box, Max J, fox, exercise, or a book, such as The Lorax, that has "Xx" in the name. J

Book Orders are due Tuesday.
Remember, Scholastic book orders are excellent sources for extra reading practice for your K-4 who is very excited to learn to read (even more) and for summer reading. J We will probably have only one more book order in May. (Ordering is optional, though.)

Student Store this Wednesday

We will be having the Class Store/ Snack Shack Wednesday. We need at least 2 (maybe 3) parent helpers for helping with the store and helping the kids count their pennies. If you would like to help with this, it would be a tremendous help!

P.S. Our class has READ 50 BOOKS in just 2 Weeks! Yeah! Super Readers! Thank you parents for doing your part in helping our class to reach the goal so that children on Military Bases will get the books they need. The Lord bless you for it and may He be near you and those we are helping in a very special way. Don't forget to pray for our nation's wonderful soldiers, sailors, and their precious ones they must leave at home.

K-4 Auction Project

Dear K-4 Parents,

The auction is drawing near and so we need to tackle our class auction project. Our Auction project is going to be a cozy reading basket. Miss Miller, our auction coordinator, has assigned our class to bring in $10.00 per family and turn it in to April Stimson (our classroom mom).

Once everyone has sent in their contribution, Miss Miller will have April shop for our designated project items. Their will also be a special personalization for our class to do together, TBA.

Please bring the $10.00 contribution to April Stimson (I can get it to her too ) ASAP, so we can be sure to meet the deadline!

Newsletter for April 12-16! Show & Tell and KRT

Hi K-4 family,

We will be having the "Qq" sound as in Queen as our theme next week! Be sure to help your child select an item that has the "Qq" sound like queen, quail, or quack. They may also bring something that is quick, or quiet (i.e. a toy that is quick or quiet), or a book with a "Qq" sound in the title. Have fun! J

Important Reminders:

1. We have KRT (Kindergarten Readiness Test) testing this week, as the other kids go through Iowa testing. I will be testing 2-3 students per day.

2. Make sure your child gets a good rest and a nutritious breakfast to start their day off right.

3. Please make sure that your child has a warm enough jacket. It's getting sunny but the wind still makes it cold outside.

4. Book Orders Flyers are coming home Monday. The due date will be the following Monday, April 19.

K-4 Info for the Week of April 5-9, 2010

Sorry for taking so long to post!

Show & Tell

We are Showing and Telling something from Spring Break. It can be an item that helps your child share something they did during the break, or a picture or a postcard, or an interesting item they were given or bought from a trip. It could be a special thing from their Easter Basket or a movie they watched or a picture they made or a book they read!

Coming Up

In the coming weeks, we will be having a few more letters, colors, etc. for Show & Tell themes and I will be more on top of letting you know by Sunday. J

I am going to start teaching the children some "Sight Words." These are typically words that don't follow phonic rules like "the" or "a." Keep a look out on the blog for the info. These words will start coming up in their reading homework.

United We Read for Classrooms Care

We are starting to read books for a cause in our classroom. Every time your students reads with you (listens to a story) or the class reads a new story book, whether a book they haven't yet heard at home, or a book from the school or public library, and reports it to me, we will color a star on our Classrooms Care United We Read Poster.

If we read 50 books in class or at home (all of us as a class) we will be part of helping children on Military Bases get books to read. It's something to support our military families and so easy and fun to do! We already colored 7 out of the 50 by a show of hands of who read their library book last night and reading a book at story time! There is more information at www.scholastic.com/ClassroomsCare.

Can any of you assist our 3rd grade teacher, Miss Gray, and art teacher, Mrs. Frederick, with some talent-palooza art preparation tasks tomorrow, Thursday March 25?

Susan Gray, the 3rd grade teacher, is heading the art prep committee and is a little overburdened with work concerning prep for our Talent-Palooza event at the Book Fair (@ B&N this Saturday/Sunday).

We have to get all art projects ready to display and travel-ready to get to B&N this Friday BEFORE 4pm and time is limited and so is help. If you can help, thank you so much and please let me or Miss Gray know in the morning at drop-off.

Show & Tell/ Easter Program/ Book Fair

Hi Parents,

Our Show & Tell theme this week is Spring-Time! Examples: toys that have to do with spring-time (i.e. trees, butterflies, flowers, birds, baby animals, etc.), 3 things your child likes about spring or favorite things to do in the spring, or a picture they draw about spring. Other options can be something having to do with Easter. Have fun! Please don't feel that you have to go out and buy something. Remember, whatever it is, it must fit inside your child's backpack! J

We have normal scheduling all week, NO Half-days! We will be having a chapel time this week.

Don't forget, we have a classroom supplies list in the classroom. I am hoping to have it with me when I pick up the kids in the morning, so you can take a look and sign up.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS!

Easter Program:

Due to sports conflicts the Easter program has been changed to 7:00 -7:30 p.m.

Please have your children here between 6:30-6:45.

Also, dress comfortably. If at all possible wear hillbilly style clothing such as jeans or overalls, but please don't feel it necessary to go out and buy anything. (Please DO NOT wear hats)

Barnes & Noble BookFair:

Our Barnes & Noble BookFair is THIS upcoming weekend and our school's TALENT-PALOOZA Talent Event will be there. It's a great chance to see the kind of creative arts our CCS students are capable of! If you have friends/ family interested in enrolling their students, it will be an opportunity for them to see it too and everyone has the opportunity to buy books/coffee/ goodies and support the BookFair. Voucher/invitations are attached to the flyers going home Monday and are to be handed out ASAP.

The Teacher Wish List Table will be there again for you to buy a book(s) for your child's teacher. Just take a book and the matching slip with you to the register, mention the BookFair and the cashier will help you with the rest!

Hi Parents, 
 
This week's theme will be different.  We will be having some fun with St. Patrick's Day this week and learn a little about Ireland and the saint that's honored on March 17.  :) 
 
So our theme is going to be something green!
 
Please continue working with your child on their letters, blends, counting/numbers, and writing their names whenever possible to prepare them for Kindergarten readiness.
 
Also, I hope that you will take advantage of the "Reading is the Ticket" free ticket to Silverwood Theme Park opportunity. (See packet for details.)
 
If you didn't have a conference, your child's report card will be coming home in his/her folder this week.

Reading is the Ticket!

Hi Parents,

Your K-8th grade child (enrolled at CCS) can earn their own free ticket to Silverwood Theme Park and Boulder Beach Water Park by reading/listening to someone read for 10 hours between now and April 4, 2010. Packets are going home this week with all of the info. You help/supervise them as they read/ listen to reading and filling out the form and then you (parent/guardian) sign the form verifying they read.

New Trimester Starts Today! SPRING CONFERENCES FRIDAY!

Show & Tell

In case you didn't know what the theme for show & tell was for the week, it's Zz! Examples: Zips, zipper, zigzag, zucchini, zebra, zoo, and "0" (zero).

The K-4s did very well with assessments last week. It was fun to see how they have grown and what they now know compared to November.

Conferences Friday, No School for K-4 & K-5

PLEASE SIGN UP FOR A CONFERENCE FOR FRIDAY, if you would like to speak with me about how your child is doing in class academically/socially/emotionally, etc. I will give out report cards to parents at conferences Friday or on Monday in your child's folder.

Friendly Reminders

Some reminders to help your kiddo succeed both in K-4 and in K-5, have them practice their blends (I sent out a blend packet in January); have them practice counting to 20+ with objects at home and have them practice their letters and sounds using the letter cards that come home every week.

Also, it would be wonderful if you could have your child practice writing their names with capitals and little letters in the correct spots, as well as help them work on the formation of the letters (I sent home a packet for that at Fall Conferences). This will help them as they progress to Kindergarten 5 and 1st grade (as well as help their teachers and parents to recognize whose paper is whose).

Memory Verse

No new verse this week. We are continuing to practice John 1:12. It is a very important verse for being assured of salvation and knowing how to share Jesus with others, as well as understanding God's invitation to receive His forgiveness!

Our Reading Day was a Big Success!

Dear Parents,

Thank you parents for helping your kids to have a great reading day! It was simply precious to see them cuddled up with their books and pillows and blankies and enjoying reading!!!!!

It was such a special treat for us to have two parent volunteers come in and read to our K-4's during stations. Thanks to Mrs. Bouchey and Mr. Stimson for reading to our kids! It was great for the kids to have such positive reading role models and they enjoyed it so much!

I taught the kids this chant: "I love reading, yes I do! I love reading, how about you?!"
I am sure they would love to do it for you!

Greetings parents!
A new week and a new month is here. As you know from the letter I sent home, this week's letter and sound is Pp. We will have Pp as a theme for show & tell this week. Your child will need to bring an item that begins with the letter of the week. Pen/pencil, popcorn, pig, paddle-ball, ping-pong, picture are all examples of objects that can fit into your child's backpack for show & tell. If your child chooses a picture for their share time, it can be a photo or one they drew and/or colored.

Read Across America Day is Tuesday, March 2, 2010

This is a day that is dedicated to celebrating reading and is in honor of Dr. Seuss' birthday. It is a day when students across the country DEAR--Drop Everything And Read!

To celebrate this, we will have a reading celebration on Tuesday. I would like the K-4s to bring their favorite book from home (labeled with their name, please!) for a special share time. Also, we will have a special DEAR time where the kids can "read" their special book and other books we have in the classroom for about 10-20 minutes. For the occasion, students may (optional) bring a small blanket (that fits in their backpack (:), a pillow (small enough for your child's backpack or small enough that they can carry by themselves), and slippers to change into for DEAR time that fit into their backpack.

Tuesday is a PE day, so they will need to wear regular shoes so they can walk over to the gym--we take our shoes off anyway for PE in the gym/sanctuary.

Also, if any of you parents or grandparents of K-4s have the time available, it would be neat to have reading stations where the kids can listen to parent story tellers read some favorite Dr. Seuss books (I have a bunch of them, so don't worry if you don't have very many lying around at home) or other favorites, too. We could do this as a special station time after snack toward the end of the class.

Let me know if you can be a volunteer reader for our class. We only need 1-3 volunteers. I know it's last minute, so don't feel pressured to take off from work.

Spring BookFair at Barnes & Noble
Saturday & Sunday March 27-28, 2010

Mark your calendars and save the dates! If you will be in town the weekend beginning our Easter break, come to our Talent-Palooza BookFair event. We will be showcasing our students talents in writing and art and possibly music as well. The BookFair is all weekend during B&N hours, but our special event is on Saturday from 2-4pm. Simply shop for your books and anything you want from the B&N cafe and say that it's for CCS's BookFair like last time. We will get a percentage of the sales. Questions? Just ask me!

100th Day Success!

Happy 100th Day of School!

We had a lot of fun today! I hope your K-4 student shared with you about our fun day celebrating the 100 days of school! We did 100 exercises! We counted to 100 at least 10 times by ones and by tens at least 12 times! We counted money to 100 and straws to 100 and drew pictures of what we would like to buy with 100 dollars (story journals). We also colored the number 100 (these are hanging in the windows next to or behind the Ww's. :)

I was SO impressed by the "100 things charts" that the children did! Thank you for helping them! I wish I had a digital camera--I would take pictures and post it on Facebook or this blog! :)

I am proud of our K-4s. I couldn't count to 100 or read in Kindergarten like these youngsters do. :)

Tomorrow, we will be making 100 "froot loops" necklaces and listening to a 100th day of school book.

Happy President's Day!

Our Valentine's Day party was so much fun! I hope your child had fun opening all the little Valentine cards at home (especially the VeggieTales!)! :) :) :) :): ) :) :)

Thank you to all the parents who came! It made everything go so much more smoothly and so much more fun for everyone!

The kids did so great with the V v sound in show & tell last week! This week, we are learning about the Ww as in wagon sound! Your child will need to bring a Ww sound item to school on their share day (small enough to fit in their backpack). Examples are: wagon, weasel, walrus, wallaby, wolf, water bottle, wool sock, window art, wallet, watch, walnuts.... (The item has to start with the Ww as in wagon, not "wr" and "wh" is iffy.)

Please make sure you and your child keep practicing their letter cards and blends at home, along with counting numbers! Reading assignments are critical to complete as well. Your child needs to practice reading (ONLY) their ASSIGNED pages every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights so every child in their group can move on at the same pace and continue to their next book when the group is ready. Please feel free to use other supplemental materials if you would like your child to read more than the assigned pages in their Little Book reader.

Assessments for the trimester are coming soon in a couple weeks and your child will get to show what they know for their next report card period!

Hi parents!

The students did great with Show & Tell for Kk last week! Thanks for your help with that. This week, our theme is Vv for violin. Examples for the Vv sound is Valentine :), violin, van, vest, vegetables, VeggieTales….

We will have a Valentine Party on Friday. We will be distributing valentine cards on that day. Our students will need to make their valentine boxes at home and bring them on Thursday or Friday.

I have several empty Kleenex boxes that can be used to make Valentine boxes. If you would like one for your child’s box, please let me know!

Tomorrow is Library! If your child has not already brought their book back, please help them remember to bring their library book(s) tomorrow and they will receive a special treat from me, as well as be able to check out a new book for the week!

Child Pick-up

Hi Parents!

Just a request and a reminder regarding child pick-up.

Please make sure you send a note to school to let me know if someone other than you or the regular child-care provider is picking up your child so there is no confusion. That way, I don't send your child home with someone you didn't authorize and the office knows, too.

I know some of you let Mrs. Ricard or I know verbally at the drop-off line if someone's having a play-date, et cetera, and I welcome that, but having a written note cuts down on possible forgetting to pass things on. It also helps me when my memory goes blank!

Also, please also make sure that all persons who you send to pick up your child is on the "ok to pick-up" list in the office.

This would be SO VERY HELPFUL to me at pickup.

Also, since several of the K-4s have been forgetting that they are supposed to get my attention before they take off to go to their parent/ babysitter/ car, I will be talking to them and reinforcing that rule and I hope you will also talk to your K-4 and reinforce it with them. I get anxious when I turn around and I don't see a child that is supposed to be there and then I look and there they are running off to mom or babysitter after no telling me.

I think calling them from the carpet to come out when I see you was a good way to do it today. Another way to deal with it is having them stay at the window until they are physically picked up by you or your designated person. Either one of those I would be more comfortable with. I want to keep your children safe!!!

I would love to hear back from you about that. Please reply to my email or comment on blogspot and that will inform my decision.

I am working on getting the K-4s ready and at the door at 11:15. Sorry for the frequent wait!

Valentines Day & 100th Day of School!!!

Dear K-4 Family,

Valentine's Day is on a Sunday this year, so our class Valentine's Party will be on Feb. 12, the Friday before. We will NOT have school on Monday, Feb. 15 due to President's day observance. The following Wednesday, Feb.17 is our 100th day of school!

Our official Room-Mom is April Stimson. If you would like to help out with the Valentine's Day party, please contact April (April Stimson: michael_stimson@msn.com) (and me :D) and also let me know if you would like to help out on the 100th day of school because we might have a few extra stations on that day and may need 1 or maybe 2 extra people for 100th day activities (TBD).

Another week is upon us and a new letter and number of the week to focus on. Thank you for helping your K-4 student pick out items to share with the “Kk” theme for Show ‘n’ Tell. ***This week’s theme will be the "Kk" as in kite sound. Your child may bring an item starting with the Kk sound small enough to fit in their backpack. Examples: kite, kitten, hershey's kisses, koala, kangaroo, et cetera….***

Our number of the week is 19!

Please have your child continue to practice counting to 20. They are doing very well counting in class and I am very proud!

Reminder: Monday is library day! Don't forget your library books! I don't want our K-4s to miss out on checking out a book!

Don't forget to look over the bookorder flyer. The due date is this Friday, February 5.

Jeremiah 33:3 is this week's verse. The K-4s learned Titus 3:5 so well last week, I'd like to teach one section at a time with this week's verse as well.

Completed Reading Books and Reading Homework

Hi parents,

Just a note regarding Completed Reading Books and Reading Homework.

When your child is done with their reading book (i.e. she/he has graduated to the next book), I will be putting a star, or a sticker, with a date on the front. That means they get to keep it at home and it is for your use. Once I have starred/stickered and dated the book, they Must Stay at Home!

My advice is to review it with your k-4 periodically, maybe once or twice a week, or a couple times a month, if you'd like.

Don't forget when your child has reading homework, every Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday, they need to read to you ONLY their assigned pages at least 3 times and you need to initial their bookmark.

Please make sure the bookmark stays clipped to the book so it doesn't get lost. When I assign new pages on the bookmark, I put a sticker on the parent's initials as a reward to your child for doing their homework.

Some bookmarks are still stickerless (please initial, so I know your child has read).

Hi parents,

A note about the memory verse. We are learning one phrase at a time this week! Today, we learned Titus 3:5 "He saved us..."

I explained the whole verse's meaning on your child's level (only Jesus can take away our sin--we can never clean our sins away because of things we do...), but we are learning a new phrase and adding hand motions along with them to help the children learn them.

Your children have surprised me over and over with what they are capable of learning, so it should not be a problem for them to learn the whole verse over the course of the week!

Tomorrow I will teach them:

"He saved us, not because of righteous things we have done..."

I assign their pages based on what we work on in their group each day and they need to keep pace with that. If they read ahead they may get bored and lose interest in their book while we are in our reading group time. Also, please make sure your child's reading book is in their folder and backpack everyday! Thanks for your cooperation in helping your child succeed in reading group!

Reading Groups--status report!

The K-4s are doing very well transitioning into reading groups. I just did some assessment of their individual letter/sound knowledge and will be putting them into their "official" reading groups. They will be in these groups for reading groups and stations and these arrangements may change from time to time according to the children's needs/ skill levels/ et cetera.

I am excited that the children are learning to read and they are too!

Keep up the good work with practicing your letters and sounds cards and any blends/blend ladders on papers that go home (i.e. ga, ge, gi, go, gu). Doing this will help your child as he/she transitions into reading. :)

We will begin reading groups this week, please remember to check your child's folder for their reading book. We will be having reading homework 3 days a week. In these first books there will be letter sounds and blends, sometimes 3-letter words. Please help your child practice their letter sounds and practice blending consonant sounds with vowels (i.e. for "ga" your child will need to say "g" - "a" - "ga". See me if you have any questions once you have taken a look at the reading book.

There will be a bookmark marked with the date of the assignment, the pages assigned, and a place for you to initial that you helped your child read their assigned pages. They will need to read the pages 3 times per night per assignment.

*****At our December staff meeting it was decided that we have to enforce our tardy rule. We start over in January, but each trimester, a student can only be late up to 5 times and then the 6th time they are tardy, they are suspended one day and from there, it escalates (please see your Orientation Packet for details). You will also be charged $10.00 per tardy starting with the 6th tardy.

Please make sure your child is in line by 8:30am and I will be escorting them into the classroom. This is so that we can start on time and important lessons and routines are not disrupted. Thank you for understanding!*****

Dear K-4 Family,

Yay, we made it through our first week back from vacation! It was great seeing all 11 of our little ones faces everyday this week.

Our K-4s did such a beautiful job on "Silent Night" at the Christmas program! I am proud of them and of all our CCS Sentinels who performed that night!

Thank you for helping your K-4 students pick out items to share with the “Gg” theme for Show ‘n’ Tell. ***This week’s theme will be the “Rr” sound as in ring. Your child may bring an item starting with the Rr sound small enough to fit in their backpack. Examples: rose, ring, runts candy….

Keep up the good work with practicing your letters and sounds cards and any blends/blend ladders on papers that go home (i.e. ga, ge, gi, go, gu). Doing this will help your child as he/she transitions into reading. :)

This Friday we have a 1/2 day schedule. K-4 student pick-up is at 10:30am. No school on Monday, January 18 in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday. School resumes on Tuesday, January 19.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

I hope everybody had a great Christmas and enjoying their New Year's celebrations!

Since we had so few days to study the last two Memory Verses in our class, I have decided that we will be reviewing/learning the last two scheduled verses this coming week. We will review John 8:12 "I am the Light of the World. Whoever follows Me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." and Luke 2:11b "...A Savior has been born to you; He is Christ the Lord."

Remember the children will be performing at Calvary's main sanctuary this Wednesday for the Christmas program, due to the cancellation before break due to inclement weather. Let's pray this current storm doesn't interfere with the program again!

I look forward to seeing you there! You will need to have your child there by 6:00pm for everything to go smoothly.

Friends and relatives are welcome, and so are your cameras. Look for emails from our secretaries regarding the cookies, etc.

Dear K-4 family,

We didn't have much of a school week, but for those of you who were able to have sharing, thank you for helping your K-4 students pick out items to share with the “Dd” theme for Show ‘n’ Tell. ***This week’s theme will be the hard "Gg" sound as in goat. Your child will need to bring an item that starts with or has Gg as in goat sound. Examples: goat, gap, gorilla, guest, guitar, girl, gate, and game. Please help your child pick an item that starts with Gg that fits inside their backpack!

If your child would like to share their favorite Christmas ornament or a "Dd" sound item, they may do that as well on their share day. We had a weird week! :)

Our number of the week is 15!

Thank you to all parents not only for those of you who gave presents, especially since it was not expected, but also for the gift of teaching your little ones. This is such a blessing to me. This year has just flown by so far and it has been a "blast" of joy to me and very rewarding!

Book Orders came in after everybody left. I sorted them out and they are ready to go behind my desk. If you need them before Christmas, please email me (foltacan@yahoo.com) with your phone number to make arrangements and I can give you a call. Otherwise they will be waiting for you after break!

CHRISTMAS PROGRAM this Wednesday at 6:30pm. Please bring your K-4 student at 6:00pm. They will need to sit/line up with their class and then after the performance we will let you know how you will pick up your child to sit with you during the rest of the performance. :)

Dear Parents,

Thank you for helping your K-4 students pick out items to share with the “Ss” theme for Show ‘n’ Tell. ***This week’s theme will be the Cc sound as in cat. Your child will need to bring an item that starts with or has Cc as in cat sound. Please make sure you help them choose an item that starts with the Cc as in cat sound. Please make sure your child chooses an item that begins with the HARD “Cc” like cat not “ch” or “s”. Examples: cat, cap, candy cane, comb. Our number of the week is 13!  Thank you so much!

Be sure to practice letters and sounds with the flashcards I sent home in the baggy.  Every week, they will receive a new card to add to the bag and practice with you.

Don’t forget to look through the Scholastic Book Orders we sent home this week. There are lots of good deals on some great books. Putting in your order online is the best deal, because we will get free books, but you can still send orders “the old fashioned way” with order forms and checks to scholastic. If you want some books and want them to be a secret from your child for a Christmas present, please let me or Mrs. Ricard know and I can put the order in a paper bag before we distribute it.
